From Roll to Finished Book: Modular HDP Digital Solutions Digital printing has made short runs, personalised editions and books on demand commercially viable. Once the press becomes faster, however, the decisive question is no longer only how much can be printed, but how quickly the printed web can be converted into a finished book. This is where the modular HDP solutions from HXCP enter the workflow. They cover the essential stages after digital printing: unwinding, cutting, folding, collating, sewing, perfect binding, three-knife trimming and hard-cover book production. Instead of forcing every printer into one fixed line, HDP modules can be configured around the real product mix: soft-cover or hard-cover books, stitched booklets, personalised copies, short runs or longer industrial series. HDP1100: wide-format book blocks directly from the web HDP1100 Wide-Format Roll-to-Book-Block Digital Line converts digitally printed paper webs into folded signatures or prepared book blocks. The system handles web widths from 330 to 1100 mm and paper from 40 to 150 gsm. Depending on the configuration, it can produce 4-, 6- or 8-page signatures at speeds of up to 200 m/min. By reducing intermediate rewinding, storage and manual transfer, HDP1100 shortens the route between the digital press and the bindery. It is suited to books on demand, educational publishing, technical manuals and catalogues. HDP700: from digital web to finished stitched booklet HDP700 Roll-to-Collator-to-Saddle-Stitching Digital Line combines web processing, folding, collating, cover feeding and saddle stitching. It accepts webs up to 700 mm wide and rolls up to 1300 mm in diameter. Output can reach approximately 2,900 A4 booklets with 64 pages per hour, depending on material and configuration. HDP700 is suitable for catalogues, promotional booklets, workbooks, manuals, instructions and periodicals. Automatic format settings reduce the time between short jobs. HDP PB7 Pro: automatic binding for changing book formats HDP PB7 Pro Digital Binder is a seven-clamp system for perfect-bound soft-cover books and for preparing book blocks for case binding. Production reaches up to 1,800 books per hour in perfect-binding mode and up to 1,500 book blocks per hour when applying endpapers and backlining material. The machine handles book blocks from 3 to 60 mm thick. PB7 Pro can operate as the central module of a soft-cover line or as part of a larger hard-cover production system. HDP TKT: automatic three-knife trimming without lengthy setup In short-run production, setup time can cost more than the actual cutting. HDP TKT Digital Three-Knife Trimmer addresses this with automatic size entry through the touchscreen. The book is aligned precisely before the front, head and tail trims are completed. Output is approximately 800–900 books per hour with cutting accuracy up to ±0.5 mm. The trimmer can operate as a stand-alone unit or inline. Optional corner rounding is available for notebooks, children’s books and special products. HDP380: automated production of hard-cover books HDP380 Digital Cover Casing-In Machine brings together the essential processes required for case-bound book production. Depending on the configuration, the line can include rounding and backing, spine preparation, backlining, head-and-tail banding, case preparation, casing-in, pressing and joint forming. Output reaches up to 35 books per minute. Automatic settings support changing sizes and thicknesses, making HDP380 suitable for photo books, luxury catalogues, educational books, children’s titles and quality trade publishing. HDP SEW: digital sewing for durable books HDP SEW Digital Book Sewing Machine is designed for the automatic sewing of signatures in high-quality book production. The system can process individual sheets or pre-folded signatures. Automatic feeding, ultrasonic technology and barcode control help maintain the correct sequence of every book. Production reaches up to 12,000 cycles per hour. The maximum sheet size is 640 × 420 mm, with paper weights from approximately 60 to 157 gsm. Sewn construction remains the preferred solution for textbooks, dictionaries, religious books, technical publications and premium hard-cover editions. One technology, several production routes The strength of HDP is not limited to the individual machines. A printer can start with web processing and three-knife trimming, then add perfect binding, sewing or automated case binding as demand develops. Possible workflows include: web to folded signatures to sewing and case binding; web to book block to perfect binding; web to collating and saddle stitching; or digital book block to three-knife trimming and a personalised finished book. This modularity is especially important in digital production, where orders change constantly and equipment must remain efficient for one copy as well as several thousand. Which HDP configuration suits your production? The right solution depends on the digital press, web width, substrates, finished formats, average run lengths and the required degree of automation. Graphotrade can analyse the production workflow, select the appropriate HDP modules and plan a complete solution from the printed web to the finished book. Send us information about your products, formats, papers and expected volumes. We will prepare a configuration based on the real requirements of your production. Graphotrade Ltd.
