GUK Cartonac: Folding and Checking Pharmaceutical Package Inserts

On an automated line, it also needs to arrive at the cartoner at the right pace. GUK Cartonac leaflet folders are designed for this part of the process. Graphotrade is the official representative of GUK Falzmaschinen in Bulgaria, supporting customers with equipment selection, installation and service.

From printed sheet to finished carton

Individual sheets are separated from the pile, fed into the folding unit and folded in sequence to the required finished size. Cartonac machines can be integrated with cartoning equipment or configured as stand-alone folders. In an integrated line, the folded insert is transferred to the next stage for insertion into the carton.

Pharmaceutical inserts often combine lightweight paper with several folds: the text must remain readable while the finished insert stays compact. GUK’s combined steel and rubber folding rollers are suited to such paper. Depending on the FA 21 configuration, the specified smallest finished format can be as little as 60 × 15 mm.

Matching the insert to the product

When a line changes product, dosage, language or text revision, identifying the correct insert matters. Depending on the model and selected options, Cartonac can include a code-reading section and a device to reject inserts following a check. These functions must be specified and integrated with the control system of the particular packaging line; they are not standard on every machine.

Cartonac models at Graphotrade

  • GUK Cartonac 91 — a proven cartoner-mounted folder available with four or six folding pockets. Code reading and rejection are optional.
  • GUK Cartonac 2003 — a compact high-speed solution with an integrated dual servo drive. GUK specifies up to 600 folds/min at a sheet length of 320 mm.
  • GUK Cartonac 2005 — a model with suction-roller sheet separation and convenient access to folding pockets and the code-reading area. GUK specifies up to 480 folds/min at a sheet length of 320 mm.

These figures are technical maxima under specified conditions. Actual output depends on sheet format, paper, folding pattern and the speed of the complete packaging line.

To select a configuration, share the open and finished leaflet sizes, paper weight, folding pattern, target speed, cartoner model and code-checking requirements. Contact Graphotrade, GUK Falzmaschinen’s official representative in Bulgaria, for a technical discussion and quotation.
